They add a magnificent look to a website and also provide a great feature for its users, they can Chat with you and other visitors On The GO, also it'll be a good source of entertainment for visitors, as they can chat & have fun. THE GADGET

A shoutbox is expected to provide a good chatting experience and it should auto-refresh after good short intervals of time. To explain this, let us consider 2 people: A and B. They wanna chat using the Shoutbox available on your website. A writes Hi! How're you. But in case, B doesn't refresh the page on which Shoutbox is present, in some cases he may get the message about 100 seconds afterwards.
But if we chat in an ideal real world, in 100 seconds, sometimes the whole chat may get over! See the difference, in former case in 100 seconds even 2 messages weren't conveyed.
To this, the rectification can be the use of a shoutboxes, that automatically refreshes itself after about 25-30 seconds, so that the message from A to B reaches quicker & people don't get annoyed while chatting. Alternatively, this concept of Good Auto-Refresh may be called Live Chat or Real-Time Chat.
2. Maximum Users Allowed Simultaneously
So due to a limitation in the Shoutbox, sometimes, if the number of users instantaneously online exceeds the pre-defined limit, the further coming users are spontaneously Disallowed, which is not at all preferable for a good website. So we are in an utter need of a Shoutbox that is devoid of or has a good amount of Users' limit.
3. Good Customization options
A shoutbox service should also allow multifarious options to modify the design and features of a Chatbox, so that it looks good on a website. But websites have dichotomous designs, some may be dark, others may be light, therefore the owners should be provided with good settings to modify the colors and other features of their Chatbox widget to fit their website properly.
CHATBOX / SHOUTBOX PROVIDERS
There are numerous chatting widget services available for websites. The Advanced sites use their own coding and scripts to add a gadget at their place, but for simple users like Bloggers, who are not interested in much of the coding part, they may try the the services available on the internet. Now, these services provide their free versions, but also ask you to buy premium to have additional features & to be devoid of the limitations of the Free Shoutbox. The free one might not provide a Real-time chatting experience, or it may put a limit to the maximum number of simultaneous users, which depends on a companies policies, but yeah! there are limitations.
In the free section, I have been able to find 2 best shoutboxes, that have lesser limitations.

Ultimately, we reach this section. lol!!! Even I was wondering, when would I commence talking about the 2 shoutboxes I like the most, because of their features. As I mentioned a hint, earlier, these 2 are freeshoutbox.net & ishoutbox.com . I'm not sure if they are as popular as the prominent company, Shoutmix, but yeah they've good service:

I'm currently (as on 26/07/2014) harnessing this one for my Web-blog. The pro & con about this service is most likely, the same point. My favorite feature is that it provides the Auto-refresh time of 25 seconds, which is very good for Live Chat. You know, I once thought that no Shoutbox service provides Real-Time chatting service for free, so considering that, this is my favorite property.
Additionally, it provides numerous options to modify the shoutbox. Not only, you can use the predefined theme, but also modify it to a great extent to completely change it, the options go deep! This can also be considered a con of Shoutbox as the high number of options tend to be overly defined & may confuse the person who's designing the Shoutbox.
But still, you can use the predefined themes and make less changes to not to be obsessed with it. And if you concentrate, they're not that overly defined.
Added to that, users can also register to this Shoutbox and be more responsive to your website. Also you, the website owner & Admin can even ban some users for their unacceptable responses & messages, Smileys too are available, plus Several other features are present. Also the modifications are easier, but they are lesser in number than iShoutbox. Again, this service also provides Real-time Chatting feature, so the your website users don't get impatient, but is also supported by ads
Smiley support, User Registration, Unlimited Bandwidth are just some additional qualities, along with some more. You can sign up & use their Shoutbox, by registering, modifying and finally getting code of their free shoutbox, from their Website:
